Meeting of 2010-03/04
Monson Cemetery Commission
Thursday, March 4, 2010

The monthly meeting of the Cemetery Commission opened at 6:00pm in the office at 32 Wilbraham Road. Commissioners present were: Jim Duggan and Al Wilcox.  Also present was Paul Lovell, Superintendent. Minutes of the February 4, 2010 meeting were read and approved as presented.

OLD BUSINESS:

        The outside lights for security we ordered and installed by Dave Beaudion.

NEW BUSINESS:

        Jim handed a packet that was created by him to the members. In it are: copy of article from newspaper on “grounds maintenance” ; copy of survey created that will go out to different towns; grant application to Norcross – with original to be signed so it can be sent; cost estimate received from Joseph Gnazzo company regarding the walls at Hillside Cemetery; (also mentioned we are getting another quote from another company);
After handing out and everyone having an opportunity to review the information, everything was discussed.

        We next discussed the mapping system and how Jim was receiving information on computer software from different companies that offer such programs. Jim mentioned that St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Chicopee spent about $18,000.00 on their program, which was starting from scratch and going off the cards and old maps they had. As we further discussed this Paul brought up that the Cemetery owns a program they purchase several years ago. The company was called Pontem, which is one of the companies Jim contacted. Jim said he would go and contact this company to see if they had any record of the Town purchasing such software and would report back at next meeting. He also would contact Gaylyn and see if she has the program, is using it and what it looks like.

        Paul informed us that he and Jan have changed the two motors on the lawnmowers – switching the motors on the 36” and 48”, making the 48” the better of the two as it is used more often.

        Paul had the tractor fixed as there was an issue with the transmission. Zeke Merrill came on Friday, picked it up and had it back to Paul on Monday. The total charge was only $381.00.

        Moulton Hill Cemetery – a very large branch had fallen out of the large oak tree there, causing no damage to the stones. Paul and Jan removed the branch and Paul said we need to keep an eye on this tree as it is very old.

        The new fence at North Main Street Cemetery was slightly damaged by the snow plowing of one of the storms. It was the storm where we had the very slushy snow and the person plowing sent it against the fence causing some of the rungs to come apart. Paul and Jan went down and snapped them back in place.

        Commissioners signed the Norcross Grant application and the bills presented.

                Meeting was adjourned at 7:35pm

        Next meeting is Thursday April 1, 2010 at 6pm.

Respectfully Submitted,
James Duggan, Clerk
